Crimes of deprivation can be eliminated by providing what people need, or people in need can be policed so they don’t disturb the system that deprives them. This is a class conflict, and we must choose which side we’re on.
A system of competing nation-states in a global economy is an unworkable combination. A global economy requires cooperation based on common interest, while competition among nations assumes conflicting interests. Surely we can find a way for people to shape their societies and cooperate to solve global problems.
There are basically two responses to immigration: the racist response calls for closing borders, and the socialist response calls for workers to be as free to move through the world as the goods they produce.
There are no ‘social determinants of health’ under capitalism. Nothing about this society generates health for people or their environments.
